10 Easy Rules to Responsible Blogging.
1. Thou shall not steal.
If you want to grow as a blogger and make a name for yourself, this is a big NO! Do not copy and paste other popular articles. If you are going to use them as references, give them the proper credit. Just write what you can and slowly, you will find you will find your writing has evolved together with your blog.
2. Thou shall not spam contents.
Comments are important since they help pull traffic to your blog. But make sure that these are relevant to the post; leaving irrelevant comments can hurt you as well. So read the article and write something thoughtful. If you write something that is of value, other readers will see you as “a value adder” and you get higher chances of getting more readers.
3. Thou shall concentrate on content.
You might get 50,000 visitors today but after reading your article and if it didn’t interest them, they are not going back. Your main motive is to make first time visitors repeat visitors. So, focus on your content. Good content is the key to a successful blog.
4. Thou shall not insult.
Your blog is your own media. You can use it to promote yourself or anybody else, or hurt someone. Refrain from bashing somebody. It may seem like a fine idea, but remember the old adage, “what goes around, comes around.”
5. Thou shall recognize readers.
Your readers are what make you a better blogger. Their loyalty, suggestions and insights into your article help you grow. In return, acknowledge them and show them that they are appreciated.
6. Thou shall not lie.
Don’t start your blog with a lie. Once somebody finds our you’re lying, it will certainly hurt your reputation and overall growth of your blog. Honesty rules!
7. Thou shall not post in moderation.
It is important to post frequently but if your topics do not interest other bloggers, it will not matter to your visitors. Some blogs do not update for 3-4 days but when they do, the content is really good that it hardly matters at all whether or not the blogs are updated daily. 3-4 days of posting also gives it just the right amount of exposure.
8. Thou shall create interest.
Use catchy headlines or title to generate from your reader! Use something that will make your readers at least scan your post. Who knows, they might turn out to be loyal readers later on. In short, generate curiosity.
9. Thou shall help other bloggers.
If you are already a popular blogger, don’t be a snob. It will not hurt you to help out your fellow bloggers in need, especially those who are just new in the field. Remember that not so long ago, you were once a new blogger and someone helped you out. So be a Good Samaritan.
10. Thou shall read other blogs.
Being a blogger is not just about writing, you also have to read the posts of other bloggers. Besides, you can also learn a lot from reading other blogs like adapting to new tones and manner of writing.
